Arktis X Mikko Halonen

Arktis presents with Mikko Halonen in Japan in October 2023 at two occasions: at the Embassy of Finland and at a showroom event at Shukoh.

Mikko Halonen created a series of ceramic gift cups by hand for the visitors to the Embassy exhibition.

Mikko Halonen

Mikko Halonen (1976) has worked as a designer running his studio for over twenty years. He began his studies in Furniture Design at the Lahti Institute of Design in 1997. After Lahti, he spent a period working at the furniture factory P.O. Korhonen in Raisio, learning to make bentwood furniture in practice. Mikko received his MA from the Faculty of Spatial and Furniture Design at Aalto University in 2010.

Mikko’s collaboration with Japanese companies began with the International Furniture Design Competition, IFDA, in Asahikawa, where he has been a finalist several times. Mikko began a collaboration with CONDEHOUSE with his IFDA 2011 finalist chair, Kiila. Subsequently, a collaborative project was initiated with the manufacturer TAKUMI KOHGEI with the OU chair in 2014, and he was the IFDA finalist chair in the same year. Mikko also started a project with the manufacturer MOBELTOKO in 2014, resulting in the Palapeli children’s furniture. In 2017, the Korento chair won the IFDA Gold Leaf Award, and CONDEHOUSE began to produce the winning design and an accompanying dining group.

In addition to Japanese manufacturers, Mikko Halonen has mainly worked in the Nordic countries with the Finnish companies Martela and Arktis and the Swedish company Hem.

 

ミッコ・ハロネン

ミッコ・ハロネン (1976年) は20 年以上にわたって自身のデザインスタジオを運営するデザイナーとして活躍しています。 彼は1997年にラハティデザイン大学で家具デザインの勉強を始めました。卒業後は家具工場 P.O. Korhonen社で働き、曲げ木の家具作りについて経験を積みました。 2010年にはアアルト大学の空間・家具デザイン学部で修士号を取得しました。

ミッコと日本企業とのコラボレーションは、旭川国際家具デザインコンペティション（IFDA）に始まり、何度かファイナリストになっています。ミッコは2011年のIFDのファイナリストに選出されたKiilaチェアとともに、CondeHouseとのコラボレーションを開始しました。 その後、2014年にはOUチェアで匠工芸とのコラボレーションプロジェクトがスタートし、同年のIFDAファイナリストチェアに選ばれました。同年、家具メーカーMöbel Toko（現・株式会社WOW）とのプロジェクトも開始し、子供用家具 PALAPELIシリーズが誕生しました。 2017年にはKorentoチェアがIFDAゴールドリーフ賞を受賞し、CondeHouseが受賞デザインとそのシリーズ作品 Korentoダイニングの制作を開始しました。

日本のメーカーに加えて、ミッコ・ハロネンはフィンランドのMartela社やArktis社、スウェーデンのHem社など、主に北欧諸国の家具メーカーとコラボレーションしてきました。

– Finnish design in the most original shape

Arktis Furniture was established in the year 2010 as Mr Matti Eskola, the founder of Arktis Furniture, made his dream come true by realising the idea of gathering highly experienced Finnish furniture specialists together to bring a collection designed in the spirit of original Finnish design to the hands of international architects. Today Arktis has a unique collection of furniture pieces commonly used in learning and working environments, health care, and other public areas. Arktis produces furniture from four internationally recognised designers, Kari Asikainen, Timo Saarnio, Jouni Leino and Mikko Halonen.

Arktis Furniture社は2010年に創設者であるマッティ・エスコラ氏が、経験豊富なフィンランドの家具スペシャリストを集め、フィンランド家具デザインの精神を原点にデザインされたコレクションを国際的に活躍する建築家の元へ届けるという目的から立ち上げられました。現在、Arktis社では、学校やオフィス、病院、その他の公共空間で使用可能なユニークな家具コレクションを扱っています。Arktis社は世界的に有名な4名のデザイナー、カリ・アシカイネン、ティモ・サールニオ、ヨウニ・レイノ、ミッコ・ハロネンの家具を製造しています。どうぞご覧下さい 。

Our way to Japan

We have known Japan for many decades. Mr. Matti Eskola has worked with Japanese companies and architects since the early 1990s. At the time, he was the CEO of P.O. Korhonen, which produced, among others, the widely recognised Kari collection designed by Kari Asikainen. Mr. Jukka Niskanen has been working with Finnish furniture companies since the beginning of the year 2000, introducing their furniture pieces to Japanese architects. Today he is the CEO at Arktis.

Mr. Eskola and Mr. Niskanen have been involved in delivering a large amount of Finnish furniture to several famous buildings in Japan, for example, in universities, colleges, nursery schools, primary schools, hospitals, libraries, museums, culture centres, town halls, office buildings and convention centres.

Now it is time to take our next step in Japan. We are pleased to have the first exhibition of the Arktis collection in Japan together with our designer Mikko Halonen. We truly hope you find our products interesting and enjoy the moment with Finnish furniture.

 

日本への道

我々は日本との関わりが長く、Arktisの創設者であるマッティ・エスコラ氏は、1990年代の初めから日本の企業や建築家と仕事をしています。当時、彼はP.O.Korhonen社のCEOであり、デザイナーのカリ・アシカイネンのKariコレクションを製造していました。また、Arktisの現CEOであるユッカ・ニスカネン氏は、2000年の初頭からフィンランドの家具会社と協力し日本の建築家に家具を紹介してきました。

エスコラ氏及びニスカネン氏は、学校、保育園、病院、図書館、博物館、文化センター、市庁舎、オフィスビル、コンベンションセンターなど、日本で幾つかの大きなプロエクトにも参加し、フィンランド家具を日本に紹介することに関わって来てました。

我々は日本での次の一歩を踏み出そうとしています。Arktisコレクションの日本での初の展示会を、デザイナーのミッコ・ハロネンと共に開催できることを嬉しく思っております。我々の商品に興味を持って頂き、フィンランド家具と共に過ごすひと時を楽しんでいただければ幸いです。
